As a dog Training instructor I see a need for a dog park to help the community safely exercise there dogs, but most importantly a safe place for off leash dog training, a place to hold special events for dogs, a place to educate the public.
A place for dog clubs such as Red canyons Kennel Club, Iron Dogs Flyer's, Southern Utah Dog Sports, to hold special events and involve the public in education, exercise and training their dogs to be good canine Citizens.

Thanks so much what you are doing to try and get us a dog park in Cedar.
Mike Wilson

Dog parks provide an excellent environment for dog socialization and activity. A dog park alsocreates an area for dogs and their owners and decreases dog traffic at regular parks and school grounds. A fenced in, off-leash area provides a safe environment for exercise. My own dogs compete in flyball (dog racing), and frisbee. Having a dog park allows me to play with them without parents stressing over a loose dog at a regular park.

Hi, we are Great Danes Pickles and Quigley. We love going to dog parks to train with our mom sowe can go to dog shows. We also like playing with all the other dogs in the park. Thank you to everyonein Cedar City trying to build a park, so that when mom brings us to town, we will have somewhere to get outand stretch our legs!

We are Murphy and Duke, and we are dreaming of having our very own dog park here in Cedar City. Our owners love the dog park in Washington City, but it's too far to drive very often!

A dog park is a basic community need these days. Dogs need to run and romp. Many also enjoy socializing with other dogs in a safe and protected environment. This park would be a great addition to our town. Residents and visitors would appreciate it and so would our furry guys!

To those that feel (a walk) in an area park or area street is adequate exercise, please read on!!  What does “exercising a dog” mean?

Taking your dog twice a day for 20 – 30 minutes at a leisurely pace (*based on observations of people walking with their dogs, the average pace is twenty-two minutes per mile. That is a slow stroll with frequent pauses to allow your dog to smell an interesting object or mark territory) is great and important, but doesn’t count as exercise. Get your dogs heart-rate pumping!UDF achieves this by briskly walking, jogging, running, hiking, biking or roller blading with the dog.

That said, Can a Disabled person (like me) keep up with their dog while Running, Jogging, or moving at a fast pace?? I think not!  Keep in mind Current City Laws say you MUST have your dog LEASHED at ALL times! Including when Running, Jogging, Etc!

The Same issues are with an Senior Citizen Dog Owner. or lets say a parent asks their child to take their dog out for exercise??  As well intentional this is for a Dog it is not enough!!

With a Sanctioned Dog Park that is fenced off Dogs will get the required exercise they need in the safety of a fenced dog park so they are not scaring children or other people, like would happen if they were on the street or bike trail running with their owner!

My dog, Gadget, is a highly social dog who likes to run, and we spend at least 2 hours a day at dog parks when we visit other towns.  He needs a park here so he can make some doggie friends, have a good run, and sniff the latest "news" around the park!

To whom it may concern,

The intent of this letter is to express support for the Cedar City Dog Park. As a resident of this city for over 20 years I have been blessed to enjoy the beautiful surroundings and opportunities for an active lifestyle.

Having traveled to 40 of the 50 United States and 6 foreign countries, I have noticed something interesting; in many places dogs are given special treatment. In Laguna Beach, California and various arrondissments in Paris, France, leashed dogs are welcome in many places of business.  While I am not necessarily advocating for Cedar City to adopt this, I am in favor of a dedicated space for family dogs to "roam free" in a controlled environment.  The Cedar City Dog Park would not only benefit local residents but those that choose our city as a tourist destination.

Thank you in advance for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Jennifer Hedrick

I have a very energetic dog that has to stay at home by himself while I work so I have to walk him in the morning before I leave and when I get home from work.  Even with long walks twice a day, he still needs more.  I started taking him to our local park where he learned to catch the Frisbee because the walks weren't enough.  I know I'm not supposed to have my dog off of a leash but what else can I do?  I love the idea of a dog park because then I know he will also have new friends to play with and I won't get in trouble for having him off leash in the other parks.

I have herniated discs, bad hip and knee and on most days, I am unable to walk without a walker.  I have three dogs that are my children and I am unable to exercise them in a safe fenced environment because all of our parks are "leash only" parks.  My tax dollars support every other park that I am unable to use for my dogs and I need a park for us.  I also believe this would be a good place to meet new friends who also think of their dogs as their children.

I take my dogs to Bicentennial Park to run all the time.  They love to play fetch and my yard is too small so we go to the park.  They love getting out and meeting new people too.  I think a dog park would be wonderful.

I have two large dogs with a large house and yard but visit our local dog park regularly to keep my babies socialized.  They love running full speed in large areas with other dogs to play with.  I've made some great friends at our local dog park because we all have a similar interest which is the love of our pets.  I visit my extended family in Cedar City regularly and think a dog park would be a great addition.  Cedar City has every other type of park so I wondered why there wasn't a dog park.  By the way, I love using your new Aquatic Center.

If there was a park to take my dog to it would make the difference on whether or not I would stop to visit your town. My dog loves to be able to exercise his legs by chasing his ball and his tug.

I just want to thank you guys for your efforts in getting a dog park up and running. I sure know that my dog Loki could use a local dog park. Until recently when he has been around other dogs he was very anti social to other people. But since I have had the chance to socialize him with a few friends and their pets he has become a lover to everyone who comes to the house now. I know having a local dog park would be perfect for us and give Loki and myself a chance to make some new local friends to. HURRAY for all the hard work, thank you and good luck :-)

I am so pleased that Cedar City is FINALLY considering a dog park.  There are so many benefits to having one that I can't believe Cedar City, of all places, hasn't been with the times.  This should have been done a long time ago.

I have 2 dogs. Bo is a 3 year old male black labrador mix and Hazel is a 6 year old female golden retriever mix. As you can see, they love to run and play. So full of energy. I'm looking forward to a dog park because it would be a safe place for my dogs to play and socialize. Dogs just want to have fun! And I enjoy watching them have fun. I love my dogs!

We are at Lake Havasu for the winter. Hobie loves the RV park where we stay since most people have a dog. He enjoys being in a large pen outside our trailer where he can say hello to every dog that walks by. His real fun comes when we take him to the dog park for small dogs. After an hour and a half playing chase at the park he is wiped out.

The local dog park here in Park City had about 12 happy dogs running around yesterday, just an hour before the Super Bowl. I see dogs and owners using the park at all hours, and even past dark. It is a great facility that provides a safe place for dogs to run off leash, become socialized with other dogs of all sizes, and let owners meet and be social too! I fully support the efforts of the Cedar City Dog Park group to locate and build a park!

We can easily walk our dogs in the Cedar Valley and at 3 Peaks but the social aspect of a dog park is really exciting. Not only will our dogs get a chance to play and socialize (read, improve behaviorally) but we get a chance to visit with other dog lovers, dog trainers and learn how to make life with our pets better. We think a dog park has tremendous value. It will really build a stronger sense of community!

We would love to have a place to go where people can be educated about us so they don't act scared or mean when they see us come play. We are lovers and want a place to run around and play with new friends.                 Harley & Lily

My husband and I moved to the Cedar City area with our Great Dane back in March. We absolutely love it here but were disappointed when we realized the city did not have a dog park. I was so excited to read the article in the Iron County Today.

Long story short - We NEED a dog park! Just took my very, very shy lab puppy to a play date in the new Washington Dog park. She accually socialized with other dogs and a bit with humans. Since then she has taken treats from people and voluntarily approched someone and sat right by us for a good hour. Only difference is the dog park experience - So again - My babies would love a dog park! It works magic!             Chelsea Gardner
